Is Music Life?

Let's go back a step. Pythagoras reckoned that maths = beauty and music = beauty, therefore music = maths. Turned out that he was right, in a sense. And you could, rather stretching a point, say that life = maths, therefore music = life, and you'd be right in another sense ... not necessarily a very interesting one, unless you're into the kind of weird maths that says that order = chaos, repetition = variation and pattern = beauty. Now, that's life and that's music. QED? Perhaps. Whatever your starting point, the interesting stuff comes from making & breaking patterns, becoming part of something else and discovering things that you never thought existed, let alone within you. That certainly sounds like music and life to me. Oh, and they're both journeys. No going back.
